The Drake Bulldogs will be on the road this weekend with a visit to Montana State out of the Big Sky Conference. The Bulldogs are 1-1 after a victory at Missouri S&T and will go up against former Drake coach Rob Ash, who led the Bulldog program for 18 years before taking over at Montana State four years ago.

Drake coach Chris Creighton says he talked with Ash when he interviewed at Drake and has talked to him him since and last year had him write a letter to the fifth-year seniors. He says the Bulldogs know they are a huge underdog in this game against a team that has 63 scholarships to their zero. Creighton says they want to play this game to get better and know they will give them a good game and will be a better team as a result.

Huge upsets happen all the time in college football and Montana State nearly pulled one off last week before falling at Washington State 23-22. Creighton says it’s not if they win and have a rare moment to make the game worth it, as he says they want to make the team the best it can be and win the Pioneer Football League. He says this game will help them reach that goal.

Three current Montana State assistant coaches played at Drake under Ash, Dale Ploessl, Jamie Marshall and Noah Joseph.
