While the weather’s been unseasonably warm, make no mistake, winter’s coming. About 150 volunteers in central Iowa will spend today working to make 50 of their neighbors’ homes winter-weather-proof. Justin Jones, manager of Black Hills Energy in Webster City, says the effort is called Warm Hearts, Warm Homes.

Jones says, “Volunteers are going to do basic weatherization tasks on homes such as plastic on windows, foam caulking, blankets on water heaters, new filters in furnaces, making sure all drafts are taken care of through door sweeps.” He says the homes chosen for the upgrades are all occupied by people who are disabled, elderly or who are living on fixed incomes.
