An independent write-in candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in Iowa was jailed in Nebraska over the weekend. Campus police say 41-year-old Philip Storey of Council Bluffs is accused of threatening a University of Nebraska-Lincoln student worker who was removing his campaign signs.

Storey was arrested on suspicion of making terroristic threats. A UNL official says Storey approached the student worker in the campus’ landscape services department and threatened to kill her or send someone to hurt her if she continued to remove his signs.

Campaign signs aren’t allowed on university property and it’s unclear why Storey even posted signs for the Iowa Senate race some 60 miles into Nebraska.
