A Des Moines woman and two men who came to her aid were stabbed this morning in an altercation that began as a domestic dispute. Police department spokesman, Jeff Edwards, says police were called around 7:30 this morning.

He says the suspect was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife and had grabbed a three-inch paring knife and was holding it on his wife. Edwards says the woman’s cries led to two men from an adjacent apartment coming to help the woman. Sergeant Edwards says the wife and the two people who came to help were stabbed by the husband.

“We believe the injuries to be serious, but don’t believe anything is life-threatening at this point,” Edwards says. The names of the people involved have not been released, and Edwards says they don’t know exactly what started the domestic dispute. He says detectives are still at the scene and still have to talk to the suspect and complete interviews with the victims.

Edwards says having people injured while trying to help someone in such a situation is something they don’t see very often.

Edwards says it’s fairly unusual to see someone take an active part and step in. Edward says they are waiting for the results of the investigation to determine any charges. Officers on the scene reported there was a child in the home that was not injured.
