Northwestern coach worried about big plays against Hawkeyes

November 10, 2010 By Todd Kimm

Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald is concerned about the Wildcats giving up big plays as they get set for this weekend’s game against Iowa. Fitzgerald says they need to find a way to slow down Iowa’s ground game but need to be careful about the play-action pass. Fitzgerald says Iowa has been successful in doing what they do and not trying to trick you.

Iowa’s defensive line gets most of the attention but Fitzgerald says the entire defense is playing well. He says they’ve had injuries at linebacker, but the young guys have stepped up and the secondary includes ball hawks.

Fitzgerald says Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi is having an outstanding season as he has 21 touchdown passes and only three interceptions. He says Stanzi has been making outstanding decisions.
