Two now charged in Des Moines murder case

December 3, 2010 By Matt Kelley

Two men are now facing murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a Des Moines man last month. On the morning of November 18th, the body of 36-year-old LaCarlton Henderson was found inside an SUV with the motor running. He’d been shot in the head.

The vehicle was sitting outside an apartment complex on Des Moines’ northwest side. The next day, police arrested 32-year-old Renard Andrews as a material witness in the case. Andrews is now charged with first-degree murder. Another man, 32-year-old Orlando Hawthorne, is also in custody on the same charge.

Police say Hawthorne was arrested in his home city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is awaiting extradition to Des Moines. Few other details about the case are being released, including a possible motive.
