Governor Culver is in Brazil, touting a program that is likely to be cut by his successor. Culver left Friday for “an international academic and policy conference” in Brazil.

Culver is chair of the Governors’ Biofuels Coalition which is made up of 35 governors and five international representatives. Culver will give a presentation on development of biofuels in the Midwest, and his staff says he’ll focus on the Iowa Power Fund. The fund was created during Culver’s tenure and has given state grants to 32 different renewable fuels projects in the past three years.

Governor-elect Branstad and Republican legislative leaders have said the Power Fund is one of the state programs most likely to be eliminated. According to the news release issued by Culver office, the cost of Culver’s travel to Rio de Janeiro Brazil has been covered by the Govenrors’ Biofuels Coalition.
