Most of Iowa is under a Wind Chill Advisory this morning as the gusts are making the already-cold winds feel like they’re around 20-below zero. Meteorologist Rod Donovan, at the National Weather Service, says the frigid temperatures are looming.

Some cloud cover is moving in with a high-pressure system that should bring wind chills up from ten-to-20-below to ten-above by mid to late morning. Donovan says the weekend blizzard dropped plenty of snow on Iowa. The weekend blizzard dropped three to ten inches of snow on much of the state. Waukon, in far northeast Iowa’s Allamakee County, reported a foot of snow, though parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin 18 inches of snow, with isolated reports of nearly two feet.

Donovan says Iowa should get a break from any new snow for a few more days. There’s a chance of more snow on Wednesday with one-to-three more inches possible. Many schools across northern Iowa are on delays this morning, with a few cancellations. Interstate 29 from Sioux City to Council Bluffs and I-80 from Council Bluffs to Des Moines were reopened yesterday.

Wreckers will be busy today pulling out the dozens of crashed cars and trucks. The highways in northeast Iowa are still in the worst shape with snow and ice-cover. Check road conditions at 511IA.ORG.
