Davenport police release the name of homicide victim

January 3, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Davenport police have identified the victim of the city’s first homicide of 2011. It happened during a party in a suite a little after 3:30 New Year’s Day morning at a motel in north Davenport.

Police responded to a shots-fired call and found the body of 20-year-old Earl Nimmers Jr. of Rock Island in the suite. He died at the scene.

An autopsy is being scheduled, and an investigation is under way.

No arrests have been reported in the shooting death. But the Rock Island Argus reports that cops did arrest 30-year-old Tremond Giminez of Rock Island at the scene. Police say he kicked a detective in the leg as he walked by. Then, when Giminez was told he was under arrest, he allegedly punched the officer in the face.
