Two people were killed and two others were injured during a collision Sunday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Adair County. The Iowa State Patrol says a westbound full-sized pickup went out of control and entered the median before crossing into the eastbound lanes and hitting the driver’s side of a semi driven by 37-year-old Christopher C. Malone, of Crestview, Florida.

Following the collision, both vehicles came to rest in the passing lane of eastbound I-80, about one-half mile west of the Dexter exit. The unidentified driver and passenger of the pickup died at the scene. Malone, and a passenger in the semi, 20-year-old Tara Malone, also of Crestview, Florida, suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to a hospital in Des Moines for treatment.

The accident happened at around 3:30 p.m. While it was snowing at the time, it’s not clear the weather conditions played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
