Iowa Weslyan looks to hold onto conference lead

January 14, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The co-leaders in the Midwest Collegiate Conference race meet in Mount Pleasant on Saturday when Ashford visits Iowa Wesleyan. Both teams are 5-0 in the league race and while they were picked to finish in the middle of the pack Ashford coach Oliver Drake says neither should be considered a surprise.

Drake says they are playing above the expectations of people outside the program, but they don’t believe that inside the program. The Saints need to find a way to guard an Iowa Wesleyan team that is averaging around 84 points per game. He says they are efficient on the offensive end and that will put pressure on the defense.

It is still early in the conference race but Drake says it is a very big game with both 5-0, he says it’s a statement game for his program as they try to establish themselves as a championship contender.
