The Iowa Senate will recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day it’s in session. A rookie Republican senator complained last week when he learned the senate said the Pledge only on the first day of each week. Senate President Jack Kibbie, a Democrat from Emmetsburg, announced this morning that senators would recite the Pledge daily.

“Certainly as far as freedom and the flag and liberty and justice for all — there’s nobody opposed to that,” said Kibbie, who was a tank commander in the Korean War. Senator Bill Dix, a Republican from Shell Rock, was surprised after he became a senator this month the senate didn’t say the Pledge daily.

“It should be part of our daily routine and it’s a daily reminder of how we are to conduct ourselves and get the work of the people done,” Dix says. Dix served 10 years in the Iowa House before leaving office in 2006.
