Melcher-Dallas science teacher charged with sexual abuse

January 19, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A school teacher in south central Iowa is accused of having “inappropriate contact” with a student. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat says 40-year-old David Bennett was arrested Tuesday. He’s charged with second-degree sexual abuse. Bennett is a 7th through 12th grade science teacher in the Melcher-Dallas School District.

“The investigation indicates there was enough information to file the charge based on a call from Melcher-Dallas schools. The investigation continued and it appeared there may have been some inappropriate contact with a student,” Goemaat told KNIA/KRLS.

Bennett made an initial court appearance this morning and was released from jail after posting a $25,000 bond.
