Former U.N.I. tight end Schuyler Oordt will get the chance to show his skills to pro coaches and scouts as he works towards his dream of playing in the NFL. The Cedar Falls native has been invited to participate in this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, which will be held the last week of February in Indianapolis.

Oordt says he’s looking forward to the opportunity to put his talents on display, as nothing is guaranteed and that’s the mindset that he is using and working as hard as he can every day.

Many players see an invitation to the combine as a good indicator that they will be selected in April’s draft, but Oordt says he won’t be taking anything for granted. Oordt has been working out in California for about the last month. He says that the change of scenery has allowed him to focus on becoming a more complete player.

Oordt says he works out six days a week, with a speed workout in the morning and lifting in the afternoon. He says the weather has been nice and allowed him to work outside on the field and get better every day.

Oordt says that some of the NFL personnel he’s talked to have told him he needs to improve his blocking.
