State and federal officials are looking for the person who shot and killed a bald eagle in eastern Iowa. The Iowa D.N.R. learned in a phone call earlier this month that the eagle had been found in a field north of Letts. It died of a gunshot wound.
The D.N.R. and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are looking for the person responsible. The agencies are hoping to receive a tip from the public that will lead to an arrest. Bald eagles are federally protected.
Anyone convicted of killing one could get up to one year in prison and a $250,000 fine.
