Police in the eastern Iowa city of Bettendorf are investigating the death of a suspect in a home invasion. It happened Thursday night in west Bettendorf.

Police Captain Steve Brauer says two men forced their way into a house occupied by three men and a woman. There was a fight. Two men who occupied the house were hurt and one of the intruders suffered multiple wounds, including a stab wound, and later died. The other intruder escaped.

Brauer says both of the injured occupants are hospitalized. One had blunt force trauma injuries and the other a gunshot wound. No names have been released. Brauer says Bettendorf residents don’t have reason to be afraid as it was evidently not a random act. Investigators indicate it’s possible drugs were involved.
