One person dead, two injured in Waterloo fire

January 31, 2011 By Matt Kelley

One person died and two others were injured in a house fire this morning in Waterloo. Firefighters were called to the home on Waterloo’s north side (2861 Logan Ave.) around 4 a.m. Acting Fire Chief Mike Jenn says the cause of the fire is under investigation but it appears to have started on the first floor.

“There were two individuals with injuries outside the structure. Upon extinguishing the fire, a victim was found inside,” Jenn said. The victim who died is a woman. A second woman received minor injuries, while an adult male was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City with what were described as serious injuries.

The victim’s names have not been released.
