Iowans may, literally, see fewer signs of former Governor Chet Culver’s administration. Signs at worksites financed by Culver’s I-JOBS program crediting the Culver-Judge Administration will no longer be required if Republicans in the Iowa House get their way.

Representative Stewart Iverson, a Republican from Clarion, led discussion of the proposal during a House committee meeting on Wednesday. “Doesn’t say you can’t put it up; doesn’t say you have to take it down,” he said. “…What this will do is say you don’t have to spend the money putting up a sign.”

Representative Dave Jacoby, a Democrat from Coralville, accused Republicans of being poor sports. “My mom…said, ‘If there’s anything worse than being a poor loser it’s being a poor winner,'” Jacoby said. Democrats like Jacoby say the new Branstad administration could have quietly made the change on its own, without the high-profile effort in the legislature.
