Davenport man dies in snowmobile accident

February 7, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Davenport police have released the name of the man killed in a snowmobile accident. It happened Friday night in rural north Davenport. Forty-six year old John Herington of Davenport and a friend were riding on separate snowmobiles when they entered a private lane. Herington struck a cable marked by a large orange barrel that was stretched across the entrance to the lane.

Police say the cable was in place to keep unauthorized vehicles from entering the property. The second rider saw the obstruction and was able to stop.

Herington was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
