Iowa rally comes up short against Northwestern

February 18, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa Hawkeyes had a late rally come up short in a 73-70 loss at Northwestern. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 13 point lead before the Hawks roared back to within two at the break. Northwestern finished the game with 12 three pointers.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says they spent all week trying to prevent the big early lead they gave up in the last game, but still gave up several three point shots early. McCaffery says he could not fault the effort, as he says the team really wants to win, but when they say they aren’t going to give up threes, then they can’t allow them.

Iowa is 3-11 in the Big Ten and will host Michigan on Saturday.
