The Iowa Department of Public Safety has added a “Most Wanted” page to the state sex offender registry. Special Agent in Charge, Terry Cowman, says some 20 to 30 people will appear on the page. Cowman says the most wanted page will capture the offenders that are currently non-compliant with the registry, including those who haven’t verified their information, or have false information, and there is now a warrant for their arrest.

Cowman says there’s a small percentage of offenders who fail to do what they are supposed to. He says they have a non-compliance rate of two to three percent out of a total of 5,000 people required to be registered. Cowman says there are several types of information the sex offenders are required to provide to the registry to stay in compliance.

Cowman says the relevant information can include the person’s employer, the place they’re staying, their vehicle type, the name of the person they’re staying with. He says offenders are required to make updates within five business days when any of the information changes. Cowman says if you see someone on the most wanted list, you should not take any action yourself.

Cowman says they encourage anyone with information on the most wanted to contact local law enforcement. You will soon be able to sign up for notices from the sex offender registry site by going on-line to the site.
