In the class 1A quarterfinal round at the girls state basketball tournament ninth ranked Lynnville-Sully takes on number two Ar-We-Va. Jerry Hulsing is in his 19th season at Lynnville-Sully and takes his second straight team to state, and a program that has a rich tradition.

Hulsing says they made their first trip in 1994 and lost in the first round, then were runner up in 1996. From there they got back and won titles in ’97,’98,’99 they won state titles and then made it last year and are in again this year.

Hulsing says preparations for the state tournament involve working on the fundamentals to be sure they are sharp and are taking care of the basketball.

Hulsing says AR-WE-VA is quick and athletic with some good size and will try to trap you and pressure the basketball.
