Top ranked Danville holds off Boyden-Hull

March 7, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Steven Soukup scored 24 points and twin brother Michael scored 19, including 11 of 12 from the free throw line as top ranked Danville held off Boyden-Hull 69-62. As a team, Danville connected on 20 of 24 from the charity stripe. Soukup says they’ve been working a lot in practice on free throws and he says it was big to make them down the stretch.

Michael Soukup also dished out eight assists as the Bears improved to 26-0 and earned a spot in Thursday’s 1A semifinals. He says they knew they were a good team and prepared for that and it was nice to get the win.

The Soukups combined for 33 points but Boyden-Hull coach Bill Francis says Danville got some big baskets from a number of different players. He says the other kids knocked down some big shots and he says if you are going to win, you can’t just get shots from your stars, and that’s what happened.

Bryce Moss led Boyden-Hull with 17 points as the Comets end their season with a record of 17-9.
