DCI investigates death of western Iowa man who was involved in fight

March 10, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in western Iowa.

Jay Casali, 39, was found unresponsive on a couch at a friend’s residence in Harlan late Sunday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harlan police began an investigation into what they’re calling an “unattended death.” The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is also reviewing the case.

Though there was no sign of a struggle where Casali was discovered dead, investigators say Casali had been involved a physical altercation earlier in the weekend.

An autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s office, but there’s no word on the results.
