The Iowa State women’s basketball team is in familiar territory, the NCAA tournament. The Cyclones got a 7th seed and will be in Durham, North Carolina to play Marist. Marist is red hot, winning 26 straight games. Cyclone Coach Bill Fennelly, says getting to the tournament is a special thing and you know you’re going to play a very good team.

Fennelly says his team has done the hard work necessary to be ready for this post-season as they’ve worked hard on defense and rebounding, while their offense has been “consistently inconsistent” and when they have struggled, it has been on the offensive end.

Iowa State has defended throughout the season with the struggles on the offensive end. The 7th seed, says Fennelly, is a sign of respect.

saying it speaks to the respect of the Big 12. Fennelly says being in the 7th spot means you’re going to draw a quality opponent.

Seeds 1 through 4 can give teams a separation, but 7 through 10 doesn’t have that type of separation. Fennelly says his team is excited about playing in Duke University’s historic Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Iowa State is part of the Philadelphia Regional.
