Iowa gets better seed, but has to play on opponent’s home floor

March 15, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball team earned a 6th seed in this weekend’s NCAA basketball tournament. Coach Lisa Bluder, in her 11th year at Iowa, is pleased to be seeded this high. Bluder says the seed is good to get away from the 8 and 9 they have been stuck at the last couple of years, but she says playing on someone’s home court is tough. She says the home teams win 85% of the time on their home court.

Iowa has a history of playing teams on their home floors, namely Connecticut a few years ago and Stanford last year. But Bluder says Iowa is playing well heading into play this weekend. Iowa won their last five regular season Big 10 Conference games. Bluder is taking a more experienced team into this year’s post-season.

Iowa will play on Saturday.
