Grinnell men look for 8th conference tennis title

March 21, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The Grinnell College men’s tennis team will be in search of an eighth straight Midwest Conference championship this spring. Coach Andy Hamilton’s team is on a week-long trip to Florida and had a 9-2 record to start the week.

Hamilton says they have 15 guys on the roster and 12 or 13 that are “varsity caliber” which he says gives the depth to do some different things with the schedule. The Pioneers are led by senior standout Juan Carlos Perez, who hails from Ecuador.

Hamilton says the Pioneers have a number of tough opponents on the Florida trip and they are looking forward to a good schedule.

Hamilton says this year’s team will benefit from the schedule as the conference is stronger and it will prepare them.
