Woody likes Cyclone competition at runningback

April 4, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Jeff Woody is only a redshirt sophomore but he is one of the most experienced running backs at Iowa State. The Cyclones need to find a replacement for Alexander Robinson, who finished his Cyclone career with more than 33 hundred yards of rushing. The former Southeast Polk standout played in all 12 games last season.

Woody says it was a different aspect he hasn’t experienced in awhile. He says he leaned on Robinson to learn, and not having him there will force him to be more of a leader.

Woody says there is a lot of depth at running back and the competition for [playing time is spirited. He says last year they had four backs in spring ball and the starter was a forgone conclusion, but now they have a battle for the spot and he says that will be “thrilling.”

I.S.U.’s spring game is April 16th.
