Drake sets pie throwing record

April 11, 2011 By Matt Kelley

It appears a new world’s record was set in central Iowa over the weekend, though it’s still unofficial. Student leaders at Drake University spent six months planning the event which took just a few minutes to carry out.

The goal was to break the record for world’s largest pie throwing fight. The current record was set last year by 671 pie throwers in New Jersey. Drake officials say nearly 700 dessert-chucking students took part in their Des Moines event on Saturday morning. It involved more than 1,700 apple and cherry pies being heaved skyward or smooshed into faces.

Officials from Guinness World Records have yet to verify a new record was set.
