The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into a fatal weekend shooting that involved a police officer and a Nevada man. At about 2:55 Sunday morning, Nevada Police Officer David Johnson responded to a domestic assault report at 637 7th Street.
Officer Johnson then met with 39-year-old Kevin Alton Johnson. During the interaction, Officer Johnson fired his weapon that struck and killed Kevin Johnson. Both the officer and the victim are not related.
Officer David Johnson has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He has been a two-year veteran of the Nevada Police Department.
