Ferentz and Pellini excited about the Hawkeye-Husker series

April 12, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Iowa gets a brand new rival next season when Nebraska joins the Big Ten Conference. Both the Hawkeyes and Huskers will be part of the Legends division of the new Big Ten Conference and will meet as league foes for the first time in Lincoln the day after Thanksgiving.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says it will be a different experience for everyone and they are excited about the series and everyone is excited about what Nebraska will bring to the Big Ten. Ferentz says the series with Nebraska is one the fans are looking forward too, as he says they’re the most requested opponent from people as he travels throughout the state.

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini says rivalries are part of conference play and he is looking forward to starting a new one. Pelini says it’s always fun and the geography makes it a good rivalry, something they had with Colorado.

Pelini says it will be a natural rivalry for the Huskers and one where they play a good football team that is well coached and won a lot of games.
