Former Agriprocessors manager arrested in Israel

The former manager of the Agriprocessors plant in Postville has been arrested in Israel. The U.S. Attorney’s office in Cedar Rapids says 46-year-old Hosam Amara was arrested March 31st by Israeli authorities pursuant to a U.S. request for extradition in connection with charges pending against him.

Amara was first indicted in November of 2008. Charges against him include one count of conspiracy to harbor undocumented aliens for profit, 24 counts of harboring and aiding and abetting the harboring of undocumented aliens for profit, one count of conspiracy to commit document fraud and one count of aiding and abetting document fraud.

Amara will face extradition proceedings in Israel in early May.
