One dead in I-80 accident in Council Bluffs

April 14, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

One person was killed in a single-vehicle accident early this morning on Interstate 80 in Council Bluffs. Police say the female driver of a vehicle involved in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene, at around 1:10 AM. Officials say the accident happened on I-80 eastbound, at the bridge over Indian Creek.

An investigation determined the vehicle hit a guardrail on the south side of the bridge approach and swerved across three lanes of traffic before hitting a concrete bridge railing. The name of the woman, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was being withheld pending notification of family.
