Tourism office launches summer promotion “I Dig Iowa”

April 15, 2011 By Matt Kelley

The Iowa Tourism Office has launched a summer-long promotion to encourage travel around the state. Spokesperson Jessica O’Riley says people can visit the “I Dig Iowa” website   (www.idigiowa.com), submit their favorite places to visit in Iowa and become eligible for prize packages worth $500.

“Anyone who submits an entry on the website will be automatically entered to win a monthly prize package,” O’Riley said. The prize for April includes four tickets to the Iowa Corn Indy 250 on June 25 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton. A total of five prize packages will be awarded between April and August.

In addition to the Newton package, the prizes include mini-vacations to Okoboji, Waterloo, Iowa City and Mason City. All of the entries are listed on the website, so O’Riley says people can scroll through ideas for both traditional and possibly unusual Iowa getaways.

“Just when we think we know all there is to know about Iowa, someone will say ‘did you know about this little restaurant?’ or ‘did you know about this event?’ We love to be surprised,” O’Riley said. The “I Dig Iowa” promotion will culminate with an event at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, August 19.

The Iowa Tourism Office will partner with the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, offering fairgoers the chance to dig through a pile of corn kernels to win travel prizes.
