Central and Coe to meet in softball

April 20, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa Conference softball showdown between Central and Coe has been moved to today due to rain. Central leads the league race with a record of 8-0 while second place Coe is 9-1. Central coach George Wares says Coe is a balanced team but they need to find a way to score against junior pitcher Ashlee Simon.

Wares says Simon is the leader in strikeouts per game for the entire country and you have to find a way to do something against her.

Wares says many times in softball big games are lost not won. He says there’s also the luck element involved and then you have to consider the umpires as one call either way can change a game. Wares says you just have to tell the players to go out and play.

It is a big week for Central. After Wednesday’s doubleheader against Coe the Dutch will host third place Luther this weekend. Wares says the teams in the conference do well in the regular season because of the tough matchups in the regular season.
