Morningside baseball coach Jim Scholten says his 28th year will be his last. Scholten is retiring an the end of the season. He led Morningside to the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament title in 2008 and a trip to the NAIA regionals. The Mustangs are 27-18 as they enter the final weekend of the regular season.

Scholten says he has had a good run at a great place to work with lots of good players. He says this seemed like the time to end on a positive note. Before heading to the college ranks Scholten spent 12 years as a high school coach at Mason City Newman and Nevada. He says he has a passion for baseball and says he has been blessed to have a lot of quality players who he will continue his relationship with after he retires.

Scholten is unsure what his future holds but does not rule out a return to baseball in some capacity.
