The Iowa Speedway is getting ready to host the first of two NASCAR Nationwide Series races later this month. Steve Wallace is the son of track designed Rusty Wallace and he is currently 11th in points after nine races. Wallace says it’s a really fun racetrack that’s a mix between a short track and a speedway.

Unlike some of the other tracks the Nationwide Series does not have to share the spotlight with the larger Sprint Cup Series at the Iowa Speedway. Wallace says the Nationwide Series gets a tone of interest and the excitement level is really high.

Des Moines native Michael Annett is currently 12th in the points race and is hoping for a good showing. He says everyone wants to run well back at home and it’s nice to have friends and family at the race. Annett says the Iowa Speedway is a short track that acts like a super speedway.

He says it’s smooth and there is a lot of room to let the car go where it wants to go. The race is May 22nd and the Nationwide Series will return the first weekend of August.
