Superman’s house falls to bulldozers

May 3, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A landmark house in north-central Iowa has fallen to bulldozers. The birth place of television’s Superman in the Wright County town of Woolstock is no more.

A demolition crew tore down the century old home where George Reeves was born in 1914 late last week. Reeves and his family moved to California soon after he was born. A group of Woolstock and Wright County residents have been trying to raise money to restore the residence to its original condition but after years of standing vacant and in a dilapidated state, it was time to tear down the home due to safety issues.

Reeves died in June 1959 in Hollywood, just a year after the Superman TV series came to an end.
