A young man has been arrested in connection with a series of gun thefts in southern Iowa. Sheriff’s deputies from Union, Clarke and Ringgold Counties say more than 50 weapons, mostly guns, have been taken from homes in the past three weeks.

An Afton man, 18-year-old Eric Downey, was arrested early Tuesday morning in Creston. He’s charged with second-degree burglary but may face additional charges. A release from the Union County Sheriff’s office indicates more arrests are pending.

Deputies have, so far, recovered 40 guns, two compound bows, one crossbow and other items allegedly taken from homes.
