Morningside softball heading back to NAIA championships

May 9, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The Morningside softball team is headed back to the NAIA National Championships. The Mustangs are 45-9 on the season after winning the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament over the weekend.

Coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmann says her team had to win five straight games after losing early in the tournament. They started in the losers bracket and she told them if they won five games they would rest on Sunday.

The national tournament will begin May 19th in Gulf Shores, Alabama and Jones-Sitzmann says they are not happy just to be part of it. It’s their third time there and she says they go in with the experience to know they can play with the other teams.
