Prisoner takes his own life at Coralville facility

May 10, 2011 By Matt Kelley

A man who was recently sentenced to prison was found dead in his cell from an apparent suicide. A spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Corrections says 47-year-old Robert Heather was discovered unresponsive in his cell shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the prison system’s medical and classification center in Coralville.

Heather had apparently hung himself with a bedsheet. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after his conviction in Lee County for lascivious acts with a child. The prison term began April 28.
