A 19-year-old soldier from southeast Iowa has been wounded in Afghanistan.  Private Alexander Meyer, a 19-year-old from Ainsworth, is one of the 2,800 Iowa National Guard soldiers who were deployed to Afghanistan last summer.

He was wounded Sunday, from what the military calls “small arms fire” in combat. Meyer was treated at a medical facility in Afghanistan, then evacuated to a U.S. military hospital in Germany.

According to a statement from the Iowa National Guard, Meyer “will eventually be transferred to military medical facilities in the United States.” The Guard is not releasing a condition report, but officials say Meyer’s wounds “are not considered life-threatening.”
