About 100 workers are losing their jobs at a food processing plant in northwest Iowa. A company called “AdvancePierre Foods” is shutting down one of its meat processing lines in Orange City.

The work will be transferred to plants in Oklahoma and Ohio. Over 100 workers at the Orange City plant will be out of a job in July. A company official says those employees will get a severance package based on their tenure with the company and some may choose to transfer to other AdvancePierre Foods plants.

The Orange City plant had been operated by Oklahoma Citywide Advance Food until last fall, when the company merged with Pierre Foods based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The layoffs affect about a quarter of the more than 400 workers at the company’s Orange City facility.
