A north-central Iowa farmer is accused of abusing his animals.

A 56-year-old Webster City man, John Patrick Thompson, has been charged with 22 counts of livestock neglect and 14 counts of duty to dispose of dead animal carcasses.

On Wednesday, deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at two properties owned by Thompson located north of Webster City where they made the discovery of the neglected livestock.

Eleven head of livestock were seized from the property and are being cared for by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and a local farmer at an undisclosed location.

The incident remains under investigation.
