The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the fatal collision of a train and an SUV in Webster City on Tuesday afternoon. The accident claimed the life of the passenger in the SUV.

He is identified as 54-year-old Francisco Huerta Duran of Webster City. He was a passenger in a 2004 Nissan Xterra driven by 31-year-old Jose Davis Rivera also of Webster City. Reportedly the Rivera vehicle was leaving the parking lot of Mary Ann’s Specialty Foods on the east side of Webster City traveling south when it failed to yield to a westbound Canadian National train.

The vehicle was struck broadside by the train and pushed off to the north side of the tracks. Duran was ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead when he arrived at a Webster City hospital. Rivera was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for treatment of his injuries.The accident remains under investigation.
