Good pitching is a key for every baseball team and that has been a big factor for Van Buren of Keosauqua in their 12-1 start to the season. Warrior pitchers have posted four shutouts already for a team that is ranked third in class 2A.

Van Buren coach Chad Scott says they are playing well on defense, are pitching well and also hitting and scoring runs. He feels the pitching staff also has good depth as 3 of 4 starters are seniors who pitch a lot of innings.

Scott says the Warriors had high expectations coming into the season. He says they have good leadership with the return of the 5 seniors.

Scott says the Warriors will face a number of tough challenges on their schedule as the competition in southeast Iowa has improved.
