The Iowa Hawkeyes have won each of their past three meetings with in-state rival Iowa State. Cyclone head coach Paul Rhoads is well-versed in the rivalry, having been an assistant at Iowa State when the Cyclones broke Iowa’s 15-year hold on the Cy-Hawk Trophy back in 1998.
Rhoads has yet to defeat the Hawkeyes as he enters his third season as Iowa State’s head coach, but he says there’s a very simple way to change that. Rhoads says they have to play better, as they have player poorly and Iowa has played “extremely well.”
In addition to the yearly series with the Hawkeyes, Rhoads says that Iowa’s third state school will also be on the Cyclones’ schedule on a regular basis. He says the schedule is done out several years and he says U.N.I. is on for many of those years.
The Cyclones open the 2011 season against U.N.I. on September 3rd in Ames.
