With a large number of experienced players the West Delaware softball team is off to a quick start. Coach Kevin Schuchmann’s team is is 15-3 on the season heading into tonight’s matchup against Central Dewitt. He says they lost their first-team all-state catcher to graduation, but have four seniors on this team.

Schuchman says the seniors have provided outstanding leadership as they talk with the younger players after games and help them understand what happened. He says last year they only had one senior and none the year before, and it makes a difference in the leadership.

Schuchman says a balanced lineup has helped the Hawks score more runs as they are putting the ball in play with a mix of quickness and power. Schuchman says his team will be challenged by a demanding schedule. He says they faced three undefeated teams at the Jesup tournament and came away with a 3-1 record.
