Toddlers and Tiaras stars coming to Iowa

June 21, 2011 By Matt Kelley

Jasmine Webb

Three girls featured on the TV show “Toddlers and Tiaras” will be in central Iowa tomorrow  to put on a pint-sized variety show, much as they do on the T-L-C program.

Christina Webb is the mother of seven-year-old starlet Jasmine Webb. The elder Webb says the 45-minute show in West Des Moines is free and it’ll be very entertaining.

The girls all sing, including some of their original songs, as well as several dances and a magic act. The television show highlights the behind-the-scenes and on-stage lives of young girls who are on the junior beauty pageant circuit. These performers are six, seven and eight years old.

Webb, who lives in Kentucky, says there are those who criticize the TV show and the lifestyle as exploitive, but she says, those critics have clearly never watched it or been to a performance. “All of the children that are on the show absolutely adore pageants,” Webb says. “They absolutely have a very, very good time entertaining. The pageant industry itself is very good for the self-esteem.”

The girls and their mothers are on a multi-state “Glamour Girls” tour which Webb says is a thrill for the young entertainers. She says camera crews from both “Good Morning America” and “Nightline” will be at the premiere Iowa performance.

“Anything can be taken to extreme levels, but as long as things are done in moderation and they’re done for the kid and the kid thoroughly enjoys them, then it’s a good experience,” Webb says. “This show is very, very entertaining. If you come to the show, you can find out that the kids absolutely love to entertain.

You can see it in their faces and you can see it in everything they do.” The free variety show is scheduled for 6 P.M. Wednesday at Valley West Mall in West Des Moines.
