Woman dies in convenience store fire in La Porte City

July 6, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

An employee who was rescued early today from a burning convenience store near Waterloo has died. Police haven’t yet released the woman’s name.

She called 911 from the Casey’s General Store in LaPorte City about 4 A.M., saying she was trapped inside the burning building. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later and pulled the woman to safety.

She was taken to a Waterloo hospital and later died. She’d come in early to the store to make donuts. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
